Architecture & Design
Architecture
At Reschio, architecture starts with the land itself. From an initial fifty farmhouses, many of them little more than crumbling ruins, over thirty have now been meticulously restored
For more than three decades, the in-house architecture and design studio, BB for Reschio, under the guidance of architect Benedikt Bolza, has approached each project with profound respect for both its location and its intended use. They champion the use of reclaimed materials wherever feasible and draw upon traditional building techniques, while discreetly incorporating state-of-the-art systems to guarantee modern comfort and performance
Contemporary features
Contemporary features, such as glass structures, are introduced with care, always ensuring they harmonise with the existing fabric, resulting in enduring, finely crafted buildings. These are not mere showpieces; rather, they are structures thoughtfully reintegrated into the landscape, engaging in a silent dialogue with their surroundings
Architecture
A Rare Depth of Knowledge
What truly distinguishes this approach is the long-term commitment. The very same team responsible for the design and construction also oversees the ongoing maintenance of these properties. This day-to-day, enduring involvement has cultivated a rare depth of knowledge – an understanding of what truly lasts, what performs best over time, and how to build in a way that is both beautiful and resilient. This reflects a broader philosophy: Reschio is a nature reserve and a working estate, not a development resort. Here, preservation and thoughtful living guide every single decision
Interior Design
Interior design at Reschio is a natural extension of the way things are build. Both the architecture and the interiors are conceived by the same hand, architect Benedikt Bolza, ensuring a continuity of vision and depth of understanding
This unified approach means that every detail is informed by how the building has been constructed, how it will be lived in, and how it will age. It is design rooted in knowledge and responsibility.
Working exclusively for the estate, the in-house architecture and design studio draws on over 30 years of close collaboration with local artisans, from blacksmiths and carpenters to stonemasons and upholsterers. Many pieces are custom-made, shaped through dialogue between designer and maker: bronze chandeliers, marble-topped bars, hand-stitched upholstery
Most materials, fabrics and furnishings come from Italy, a country rich in craftsmanship and tradition. There is also a deep love for collecting art and antiques, often weaving older objects into a space to bring a sense of history and depth. No two projects are the same; the approach is always organic, shaped by the building, the client, and the lives that will be lived within
Product Design
Designed by architect Benedikt Bolza, each piece is made with local artisans, furniture that sits naturally within the world of Reschio and inspired from centurys of design heritage
The BB for Reschio line began organically, with each project that was completed there was always a piece that could not quite be found, so it was created. The first was the Poggibonsi lamp, now something of a signature piece. Since then, the collection has grown to include lighting, furniture and accessories, designed for Reschio and available to all
Landscape and garden design
Landscape and garden design is shaped by the same thoughtful approach that guides the architecture and interiors
Whether designing a formal Italian garden or a Mediterranean mix of lavender, olive and cypress trees, each project begins with an understanding of place, microclimate and orientation. Plants are chosen not only for their beauty but for their ability to thrive in their environment, in harmony with the surroundings.
Much of the work happens beneath the surface. Landscaping at Reschio is also about what one does not see: the rerouting of roads, the positioning of a house, the sense that everything has always belonged.Â
Landscape that feels natural
Over time, the continuous management of each project has allowed Reschio and its team to fine-tune this approach, evolving deep and intuitive expertise. The result is a landscape that feels natural, shaped slowly and deliberately, with a light and confident hand
The Tabaccaia
The former tobacco processing facility from the 1940s was transformed in 2013 into the estate offices
Unlike the stone farmhouses dotted across Reschio, the Tabaccaia is built from brick, concrete and glass, its industrial character carefully preserved and enhanced. A spacious mezzanine, flooded with natural light, houses the Architecture and Design Studio, where Benedikt Bolza’s projects are developed and realised in their entirety. But the building is far more than a design studio, it is where all the creative departments of Reschio live, including graphic design, photography and video-making
