We Love Our Dancing Horses
We love watching our noble Spanish Purebreds perform piaffes, passages and flying changes. They love the attention and know how to put on a show. The music strikes up, ears flick forward - and off they go with military precision and theatrical flair.
It has been almost three decades since Count Antonio Bolza, accompanied by Antonello Radicchi, our Direttore delle Scuderie, took a trip to Yeguada Candau in Spain to select the original trio from whom most of the stable is directly descended. Reschio’s gentle approach to training dressage horses is a joy to behold. Having studied their behaviour as they reverted to their herd mentality in the open meadows, Antonello began to encourage the young to the saddle. Absolutely no force is used - no spurs, no whips, just nurturing words. Even the bridles do not have bits to rein them in.
In 2019 Architect Benedikt Bolza designed the Teatro Equestre, where dressage is practiced and taught, exactly as Greek general Xenophon prescribed back in about 300BC. Proof, if ever it were needed, that good form never goes out of style.
Dressage today ranges from amateur to Olympic-level artistry, but its aim remains unchanged: to develop the horse’s natural athleticism and willingness to perform.
We love that dressage reflects Reschio’s hint of magic
