So said Italian architect Andrea Branzi - a statement that may sound provocative, but contains a certain truth. Even Oscar Wilde, with his usual wit, claimed that “all art is quite useless,” suggesting its purpose is simply to be admired. Design, by contrast, is made to be lived with. It responds to daily rituals, interacts with space, and supports the way we move through the world.

At Reschio, design takes on its own meaning. It’s not about function alone, nor is it simply about form. It’s about creating beauty through simplicity - shaped by everyday needs and an awareness of the world around.

Every piece from the design studio is informed by its setting. Working with the land, honouring what came before and considering what might come next. Over the years, a collection of artworks, antiques, tools and objects has been gathered - all of these things, whether made or found, have a home. That home is the Bottega.

Tucked beside the Ristorante alle Scuderie, the newly expanded Bottega di Reschio offers more than a place to browse - it invites visitors into the layered world of the estate. This is a shop as much as it is a reflection of a way of life, where design, utility and beauty are inseparable.

The objects within are chosen not to impress, but to endure. An embroidered dressing gown, a leather gardener’s belt, a lamp shaped for soft light, a portrait whose gaze still lingers - each has been selected with care and instinct. Some are crafted by the in-house design studio, B.B. for Reschio; others have been gathered over decades of travelling, collecting, and noticing. All are meant to be lived with - useful, yes, but never merely practical.

The Bottega brings together a rich mix of pieces: Reschio-designed furniture and lighting, objects made in collaboration with Umbrian and Italian artisans, and work by like-minded makers - bookbinders, ceramicists, clothing designers - who share a commitment to thoughtful craftsmanship.

Alongside these are the goods of the land itself - olive oil, wine, honey and spirits made just a few fields away. The kind of things that slip naturally into everyday rituals and somehow make them better.

Wandering through the Bottega is a chance to pause, to notice, to pick up something that doesn’t feel bought, but remembered. A familiar object, newly found.
