We Love Fire
We Love Fire
We love setting things on fire! Well, only wood, candles, and our very own homemade fire starters, carefully harvested, dried and neatly bundled by our gardeners from the woods of Reschio. The art of making a fire is fast becoming an old-fashioned skill, and it is surprisingly rare to find young people who can build a proper, well-structured blaze without the help of modern contraptions (matches excluded, of course). It’s a craft we personally teach our team members who tend to the many fireplaces scattered across the estate, particularly within the castle walls.Â
There is something profoundly elemental about fire. Even those of us who have never lived with a working chimney, or felt the true warmth of a hearth, seem to recognise it instinctively, as if it were part of our very being. And perhaps it is. Humanity flourished beside the flames; its warmth sheltered us, and its hypnotic dance stirred the imaginations of storytellers, poets and wandering minds. The familiar scent of woodsmoke, the soft crackle of burning logs, the glow that draws us in, it awakens something ancient, a warmth that nourishes the soul as deeply as the body.
At Reschio, fire also lights our way. From the Bathhouse to dinner tables and garden paths, candles glow everywhere. And during our Christmas Eve candlelit procession, a trail of flames move through the night like a gentle constellation, guiding our celebrations with an intentional and enchanting warmth. And each year, we honour the ecstatic, symbolic power of fire to purify, to transform, and to begin anew. Our New Year’s Bonfire rises as a glowing beacon of renewal, where we cast into the flames all that we wish to leave behind, making space for good habits and bright intentions to come. It is, in every sense, a powerful ritual.
