The Reschio Inter-House Tournament Returns
Croquet on the lawn and five days of tennis bring friendly rivalries back to the estate
Every August, the temperature rises both on and off the court. For a brief moment, the Reschio Houses set cordial relations aside to take part in one of the estate's liveliest and most competitive traditions: the Inter-House Tennis Tournament. From 9 to 14 August 2026, players and spectators will gather around Reschio's central court for six days of friendly competition, no less fiercely contested for its convivial spirit.
This year, the tournament begins with something new. On 9 August, a day of croquet on the lawn in front of the Old Stables will open proceedings. Born in nineteenth-century Britain, croquet soon became a favourite pastime at summer gatherings among friends and family, enlivened by a courteous yet unmistakably competitive spirit. With mallets, hoops and carefully judged shots, players will have their first opportunity to warm up before the tournament begins in earnest.
From the following day, attention will turn to the tennis court. Doubles teams will compete for the coveted silver trophy, cheered on from the sidelines by a crowd rarely short of enthusiasm or advice. Although the rules are well established, they remain flexible enough to leave plenty of room for surprises, laughter and good humour.
There will be closely fought matches, unexpected comebacks and convivial moments between one contest and the next. In the end, only one House will lift the trophy, earning its place in the estate's history and on the honours board displayed in the Club House.
For those wishing to take part, now is the time to dust off your racket, sharpen your backhand and book your place
