Reflecting on our third edition of the Reschio Music Scholarship
A journey of empowering young musicians and nurturing artistic growth in Umbria and beyond
Music flows throughout Reschio’s undulating landscapes, a cohesive soundscape shaped over the years by its Maestro. This is cultivated by the Reschio Music Scholarship, which marked its third edition last year, and saw a quintet victorious.
Established to offer young musicians practical licenses for their education and opening doors to the professional world, applications are invited from students at the conservatories of Perugia and Terni, Siena Jazz University, and from Umbrians studying both in Italy and abroad. From roughly thirty applicants, four finalists are chosen to audition live at Reschio. Of these, ‘Quinto Elemento’ won the favour of the judges last year.
Formed at Siena Jazz University, the five-piece ensemble blends African-American, Afro-Cuban, and classical music traditions with a unique improvisational, jazz-infused style. Beyond technical mastery, these musicians were particularly adept at adapting their style to ever-shifting environments, a delicate yet vital measure of presence and sensitivity, key qualities for performing here.
The quintet received €5,000, a certificate, and a replica of an ancient bronze figurine unearthed on the Estate. Yet the Scholarship’s reach extends far beyond a single prize. Many finalists return to perform across Reschio, becoming part of its living soundscape. In this way, it continues Reschio’s tradition of patronage: nurturing emerging talent and ensuring that music remains woven into the fabric of the land itself
