The Reschio Open-Air Theatre is back
Stories, music, and dance unfold beneath the Umbrian stars
Every summer, the Guintarelli garden comes alive as the Reschio Players — a troupe of family, friends, and dedicated thespians — spend two weeks rehearsing to stage a performance worthy of the big stages. From 24th to 26th July, the garden will transform once again into the Reschio Open‑Air Theatre, where an original play will unfold beneath a canopy of stars.
This year’s production, written and directed by Theo Fraser Steele and Dominic West, brings fresh energy to a long-standing tradition. The players build the stage from scratch, design costumes and sets, and compose music for a live orchestra. Dance numbers, witty satire, and playful nods to local stories give each performance a lively, unpredictable charm, leaving audiences leaning forward in anticipation of the next line.
Spectators sit among olive trees and lantern-lit paths, the warm evening air carrying actors’ voices, music, and laughter. Every detail, from the flicker of lanterns to the swell of live instruments, draws spectators into the performance, creating an intimate, memorable experience.
Yet the theatre is about much more than entertainment. Ticket sales support the New Generation Foundation in Florence, helping young opera talent find their voices and grow as artists. Each performance at Reschio becomes a way to give back, combining creativity, community, and live theatre to support the next generation of performers.
As darkness falls and stars appear overhead, the garden itself becomes part of the show. The Reschio Open‑Air Theatre is inventive, engaging, and full of life: an evening under the open sky that leaves every visitor connected, delighted, and a little enchanted
